The interest in the ending for me was that it ended in a completely unexpected route from the beginning. It's still challenging a lot of genre issues and expectations, although once the "twist" happened it played out pretty expected.
They should have kissed. In terms of lesbian stuff, not that exciting. It was just a good story about female friendship/gays being badass IMO. Not the best thing since sliced bread, but a welcome break from what's been pretty shitty anime after pretty shitty anime in recent years, especially the ones that star female characters.
