It'll be several hours of my life and I have severe issues with coping with noise around me when I'm trying to concentrate so I find cinemas really difficult anyway, and the whole time I know I'll be resenting the film for not being about an interesting hero, judging the hell out of everyone around me for not having better taste, being angry with my friend for not branching out and picking an interesting damn hero to enjoy, and thinking about what else I could have done with a couple of hours away from work.

tl;dr don't often watch films; would rather read or fuck.

hdu use a lovely smiley Thor for what I now presume to be a sarky comment. Poor lovely Thor. :( Anyway I am honestly not a dreadful person? I'm not much of a film-watcher in any case, so it's hard for me to come round to spending a lot of my limited time and money (going to the cinema is very expensive and difficult where I live) seeing films I'm not even interested in. I wouldn't mind if she ever wanted to do anything I think is fun.

So...not sure what to say here tbh. I don't usually say or think this, but admittedly the first thing that came to mind was "Get over yourself". Because really, judging people isn't cool, and resentment over a film is just silly. Frustration I can understand, but that frustration possibly turning into actual hate for your friend? Seems a bit drastic and childish to me.

Then I read some of your other comments, and I now see there are other issues to consider. The thing is, if you really don't like this person anymore and are forcing yourself to be there for them in their time of need, that's on you. It might be nice that you didn't choose now to leave them, but it was still your choice, and if you decide to keep it up there will be things you'll have to put up with.

On one hand...what you're doing is thoughtful. On the other...it sounds like neither of you are enjoying each others company, you don't have similar interests and there's no real depth to your friendship, so you might not be doing her any favors by sticking around. If you grow even more resentful of her and yet continue to associate, I imagine she WILL eventually notice, and then you've ruined your own goal of keeping her from being depressed.

Why don't you just... not goto this movie? It sounds like there is no way you'll have a good time even if it ends up better then you thought.

I get we do things for friends, but there is that and there is making yourself fucking miserable for no good reason. Meet up with her after the movie and do something else, christ. You'll both have more fun if your not a in a shitty mood the entire time, which this movie seems fated to put you in.
