(Anonymous) 2012-07-02 10:58 am (UTC)(link)As for me, I actually liked the ending quite a bit better than everything that came before it. But I don't think it was brilliant or anything. It was definitely predictable, especially if you've watched a lot of magical girl shows before.
(And I'm one of those grumpy magical girl fans who has a knee-jerk "oh for fuck's sake!" reaction every time I see Madoka being praised for "deconstructing" the genre or being unpredictable/original in any way. This definitely isn't a criticism of the series itself, more of the [largely English-speaking] fandom reaction to it, but it certainly wasn't the first to do anything that it did, and frankly it played the genre tropes completely straight much more than it *~deconstructed~* anything. Especially the ending.)
