I'd just prefer not to choose a label. I'd admit I don't like that it's connected to a gender and claiming it's for equality. All the names cropping up because of that just seem like they're headed towards the ridiculous subsets like we get when people try to label themselves in the LGBT community. More and more labels for ever little nuance of your being.

It'd be cool if being human was enough.

(Though personally if I had to choose any "movement" at the moment I'd join the MRAs.)

MRAs? I have no hesitation about calling those guys a pile of nucking futs.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-02 05:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Because, like feminism, the loudest ones are the ones people hear the most.

Wanting the same rights that have been given to women doesn't make someone "nucking futs."

Wanting to forgo relationships with women forever because women are 'goldigging whores' does.

It's literally the same thing in feminism I just feel that society is more accepting of feminism and condemning of men asking for anything. That's why we have anti-rape commercials that ONLY target men as the perp and tell men they should be protecting women, charities for women only(like homelessness and single parenting), focus on women's health, ridiculous child custody and child support laws.

I don't think that we should stop caring about women but caring for men as human beings isn't going to hurt.

The whole alpha-beta thing just kills it for me, sorry.

"wanting the same rights that women have been given"?

LOLWHAT? Yes, because we have all those awesome extra rights that men don't have and they are totally oppressed and left behind. What were they again?

Hahahahahaha NO.

MRAs are, to a man, whiny douches who can't bear the idea of real equality, or of giving up any of their privileges to those damn wimmin. And they'll whine a bit more when you call them on it, but scratch them and they show their true colours.

And many of them ARE "fucking nuts" and bloody scary to boot. Have you READ their stuff? Have you SEEN them cluster onto prefectly mainstream and reasonable feminist blogs and sites and tell posters and commenters they need a good rape to sort them out?

Well let's just get this out there "Whiney douches" way to use a female negative insult.

Still, as I said, claiming that the loudest most negative people that claim to be a member of a movement are the ideal of that movement is like saying the SCUM Manifesto is written law for feminists.

"It is now technically feasible to reproduce without the aid of males (or, for that matter, females) and to produce only females. We must begin immediately to do so. Retaining the male has not even the dubious purpose of reproduction. The male is a biological accident: the Y (male) gene is an incomplete X (female) gene, that is, it has an incomplete set of chromosomes. In other words, the male is an incomplete female, a walking abortion, aborted at the gene stage. To be male is to be deficient, emotionally limited; maleness is a deficiency disease and males are emotional cripples."

FEMINIST LAW RIGHT HERE. That's why OP was confused to begin with.

I mean it's cool though that you think equality means women get more rights in some places than men while fighting for more rights in other areas (that may or may not be as bad as they claim). It's cool that you think anyone that acts like a fool on the internet is part of a movement. (http://thefemitheist.blogspot.com/2012/06/re-defining-world-end-of-men.html) It's also neat that you don't think outspoken feminists don't do the same thing to men's rights blogs/youtubes etc.

Both have their garbage.

Like what shit are you even on.

Pointing out an extreme, batshit stance from one side doesn't negate the batshit stances from the other side. (btw, no one is here speaking up on behalf of those bizarre eugenic whackjob feminists you mention)

I really can't believe anyone here stood up and said they'd join the MRA's. x__x

This is exactly how I feel. My entire problem with the term "feminism" is that it's connected to a gender. I also don't feel the need to label myself. I believe in equal rights for everyone - gender, race, sexual orientation, nationality, social class, etc - and I just don't believe the term "feminism" sums that up at all. Unpopular opinion time, but I also believe the need to be feminist in our society has, in probably well-meaning attempts to not be sexist, created some truly unfortunate double-standards (in a movie, it's terrible when a man hits a woman, but when a woman hits a man it's meant to be funny... male-on-female rapists/molesters get convicted more often and serve more time than female-on-male rapists/molesters... I could go on and on here). So, while I know that in general women need more help getting equal rights, it just doesn't sit right with me to call myself a "feminist" because I feel that it goes against my belief system. I know some people disagree with me, that's cool, but I really don't care. I also don't care that feminist is "the term" for equality. It doesn't have to be, and I certainly don't agree with it. I like to put all human beings on the same level, including in the word used to describe that idea.
