(Anonymous) 2012-07-03 02:46 am (UTC)(link)It baffles me that this is so surprising. Many, many teenagers - I'd venture to say most teenagers - feel things so intensely, much more so than during other periods of life. Everything feels like The! Biggest! Deal! There! Is! including love, romance, relationships. Many, many teenagers feel that their teenage love is true love, is lasting love, is love that will last for the rest of their lives, because many, many teenagers have very little ability and/or desire to look far enough into the future to gauge whether their love is truly realistic and grounded enough to last through adulthood.
And YA movies and books are written for teenagers. Many, many of whom want to see their feelings of Biggest! Deal! There! Is! and ~true love to last a lifetime~ reflected in their fiction. It's not supposed to be reality - it's supposed to be reality reflected through the average teenager.
