I know I used to feel very disappointed (and still do, just less) when young couples I fangirled in stories broke up in a realistic way (drifting apart, wanting different things in life, etc.). It was like reality popping out of the tale and slapping me in the face. Totally broke the immersion and the escapism of the fantasy.
