For the record, I also remember that some guy on the show was obsessed with something called a "waddle", Vonda Shephard, and that the woman who plays Jenna on 30 Rock was on this show as well. What I had ABSOLUTELY NO RECOLLECTION OF WHATSOEVER is the fact that RDJ was on the show, which is actually very weird considering that I adore him, and I'm pretty sure that my interest in him was beginning right around this same era. Interesting. Also, I did not remember that the dude from Ghostbusters II was in this show.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-04 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)Anyway, relationships take a lot of work, regardless of who you are and what you're like. Sometimes they don't work out. John was a really interesting guy, so it's not that surprising that someone (several someones, in fact) was interested in him.

I had actually forgotten RDJ was in the show until someone mentioned it, then was ashamed of my terrible memory.
But, that isn't the point of the secret so...
What the anon above me said about relationships. (Yep, being lazy, but it's also very true!)

How many years later? And I still get irritated when I think about it, ha ha ha. Probably because it was similar to an argument I heard from various friends around the same time that they didn't want to have jobs where they had to wear a uniform (be it a McJob or something that required a suit) because they wanted to express their individuality or some such twaddle. Dudes. It's forty hours a week, and you are being paid to be there and dress in a certain way. What's wrong with dressing the way one is expected to for whatever one's job is, and expressing one's individuality on one's own time?
Whatever. I think Ms Flockhart just really annoyed me, lol. Anyways, I remember it too. :-)

That being said, I think the important thing is to understand that the comfort factor is still only one part of what needs to be weighed when deciding what makes a good job. As much as I do maintain that my clothing effects me in a big way, I would still say that it probably only factors about 10% into my opinion about a job / career. And once i have taken this factor into account and made my decision about the job/career that I want to perform, you can be damned sure that I will dress appropriately for that job, ALLY MCBEAL. But then again, we're talking about an a TV SHOW about a "modern, empowered woman" created by a man. At the end of the day, short skirts and controversy earn viewers, so I guess that kind of solves the big "mystery" of why her skirts were so short.

But I have the soundtrack to it and have listened to it for years. Vonda Shepard has such a beautiful voice. ♥

OP here
(Anonymous) 2012-07-05 07:43 pm (UTC)(link)(I originally wanted to add to the secret that I usually am really against the trend in TV where beautiful women fall for less attractive men, but it's never the other way around [unless the less attractive woman suddenly turns into a super model] - this pairing is the only one where I like it.)
