Hey, hey, hey! I remember the creepy dancing CGI baby and Billy's brain tumor and Portia De Rossi and Jon Bon Jovi and Barry White(?). It was kind of a weird show and I haven't watched it since it went off the air. But, the reason people remember RDJ is because he did that show right after getting out if jail and then went back to jail when he was doing the show. It was kind of a big deal at the time.

Ha ha I came here to say EVERYBODY REMEMBERS THE CREEPY CGI DANCING BABY!!!!! too. I also remember that Ally was SUPER skinny with SUPER short skirts (although I mainly remember that one because they made a hilarious joke about it on Futurama).

For the record, I also remember that some guy on the show was obsessed with something called a "waddle", Vonda Shephard, and that the woman who plays Jenna on 30 Rock was on this show as well. What I had ABSOLUTELY NO RECOLLECTION OF WHATSOEVER is the fact that RDJ was on the show, which is actually very weird considering that I adore him, and I'm pretty sure that my interest in him was beginning right around this same era. Interesting. Also, I did not remember that the dude from Ghostbusters II was in this show.

I don't remember anything about that show, tbh (except that I'm pretty sure that dude is Larry from Numb3rs)

That's the same guy, yeah.

Actually, what I remember from the series is the quirky-ass characters, the short skirts, and the music.

Anyway, relationships take a lot of work, regardless of who you are and what you're like. Sometimes they don't work out. John was a really interesting guy, so it's not that surprising that someone (several someones, in fact) was interested in him.

I loved this show when it was on, but yea, I haven't watched it again since then. That baby man...so weird. John was adorable though imo, and that was probably the first time I saw Portia De Rossi in anything. She was and continues to be gorgeous.

I had actually forgotten RDJ was in the show until someone mentioned it, then was ashamed of my terrible memory.

But, that isn't the point of the secret so...

What the anon above me said about relationships. (Yep, being lazy, but it's also very true!)

Hey, I remember it as the show Portia di Rossi did when she was at the worst of her eating disorder! (And that's why I can't watch large parts of it)

To me they were the BEST PART of that show. So adorable. <3

All I remember from this show is that annoyingly catchy song that starts playing in my head every time someone mentions that show. Also, unisex toilets.

Guilty of only really remembering this show for my giant crush on RDJ lol

Never watched a single episode (although I too was aware of the dancing baby-- I think everyone was at the time, at least if one had an Internet connection) but what I mainly remember about the show was how completely unnatractive I found Callista Flockhart, despite her apparently being super hot or something (far too skinny for my taste); and my extreme irritation at her short skirts. As I recall, she was actually reprimanded by a judge for the inappropriateness of her attire, and responded with the justification that she had nice legs and wanted to show them off. Do it on your own time, lady. You are in a courtroom. As an attorney. Have some goddamned class. GOD.

How many years later? And I still get irritated when I think about it, ha ha ha. Probably because it was similar to an argument I heard from various friends around the same time that they didn't want to have jobs where they had to wear a uniform (be it a McJob or something that required a suit) because they wanted to express their individuality or some such twaddle. Dudes. It's forty hours a week, and you are being paid to be there and dress in a certain way. What's wrong with dressing the way one is expected to for whatever one's job is, and expressing one's individuality on one's own time?

Whatever. I think Ms Flockhart just really annoyed me, lol. Anyways, I remember it too. :-)

40 hours a week actually seems like A LOT to me when I'm being forced to wear something that I find uncomfortable / unflattering / unrepresentative of my personality, ect, but then I have just accepted the fact that I am very AWARE of what I wear and how it makes me feel - more-so than a lot of people. Wearing clothing that I feel comfortable in ( a combo of physical and aesthetic factors go into this) is a BIG DEAL to me and how I feel during the day.

That being said, I think the important thing is to understand that the comfort factor is still only one part of what needs to be weighed when deciding what makes a good job. As much as I do maintain that my clothing effects me in a big way, I would still say that it probably only factors about 10% into my opinion about a job / career. And once i have taken this factor into account and made my decision about the job/career that I want to perform, you can be damned sure that I will dress appropriately for that job, ALLY MCBEAL. But then again, we're talking about an a TV SHOW about a "modern, empowered woman" created by a man. At the end of the day, short skirts and controversy earn viewers, so I guess that kind of solves the big "mystery" of why her skirts were so short.

RDJ is the only thing I don't remember from that show lol.

...I don't know why I'm so happy to see this secret. I've never even watched the show.

But I have the soundtrack to it and have listened to it for years. Vonda Shepard has such a beautiful voice. ♥

So, OP, just what was it about her personality that attracted you?
hiyami: (Bunny munch)

[personal profile] hiyami 2012-07-05 06:01 pm (UTC)(link)
This comment made me laugh.

OP here

(Anonymous) 2012-07-05 07:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Touché! I must admit that it's partly for shallow reasons, though I'm also really attracted to the "tough exterior, soft insides" -personality. And she was also very successful and super smart... But looks play into it too. I know I'm not really that attractive person, and it made me happy to see someone so beautiful falling for someone who isn't a hunky model.

(I originally wanted to add to the secret that I usually am really against the trend in TV where beautiful women fall for less attractive men, but it's never the other way around [unless the less attractive woman suddenly turns into a super model] - this pairing is the only one where I like it.)

Just so you're aware of the contradiction of wanting someone to disregard your looks and judge you on personality while mainly judging her for her looks.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-05 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey, some people remember it because it's technically in continuity with Boston Legal! Which had William Shatner in it!
