Never watched a single episode (although I too was aware of the dancing baby-- I think everyone was at the time, at least if one had an Internet connection) but what I mainly remember about the show was how completely unnatractive I found Callista Flockhart, despite her apparently being super hot or something (far too skinny for my taste); and my extreme irritation at her short skirts. As I recall, she was actually reprimanded by a judge for the inappropriateness of her attire, and responded with the justification that she had nice legs and wanted to show them off. Do it on your own time, lady. You are in a courtroom. As an attorney. Have some goddamned class. GOD.

How many years later? And I still get irritated when I think about it, ha ha ha. Probably because it was similar to an argument I heard from various friends around the same time that they didn't want to have jobs where they had to wear a uniform (be it a McJob or something that required a suit) because they wanted to express their individuality or some such twaddle. Dudes. It's forty hours a week, and you are being paid to be there and dress in a certain way. What's wrong with dressing the way one is expected to for whatever one's job is, and expressing one's individuality on one's own time?

Whatever. I think Ms Flockhart just really annoyed me, lol. Anyways, I remember it too. :-)

40 hours a week actually seems like A LOT to me when I'm being forced to wear something that I find uncomfortable / unflattering / unrepresentative of my personality, ect, but then I have just accepted the fact that I am very AWARE of what I wear and how it makes me feel - more-so than a lot of people. Wearing clothing that I feel comfortable in ( a combo of physical and aesthetic factors go into this) is a BIG DEAL to me and how I feel during the day.

That being said, I think the important thing is to understand that the comfort factor is still only one part of what needs to be weighed when deciding what makes a good job. As much as I do maintain that my clothing effects me in a big way, I would still say that it probably only factors about 10% into my opinion about a job / career. And once i have taken this factor into account and made my decision about the job/career that I want to perform, you can be damned sure that I will dress appropriately for that job, ALLY MCBEAL. But then again, we're talking about an a TV SHOW about a "modern, empowered woman" created by a man. At the end of the day, short skirts and controversy earn viewers, so I guess that kind of solves the big "mystery" of why her skirts were so short.
