I don't have the same kind of history as you, OP, but that scene horrifies me too and I can barely watch it.

I was reminded of it in the scene in Brave where the Queen burns Merida's bow. I was so incredibly glad that in that movie, the Queen immediately felt horrified at her actions and pulled the bow out of the flames. It made me feel better, in a funny way. Like Disney was finally acknowledging that doing that is wrong no matter what.

Also, I'm so glad that you got out of that horrible situation!

I thought it was an accident - that she did nothing more than throw it on the ground...suspiciously close to the fire - nevermind.

Rewatch the Triton scene. The moment he calms down and turns to leave, you can tell he immediately regretted it. He just decided to give Ariel space.

He then beats himself up later, realizing Ariel is gone as a direct result of his own tempt--"What have I done?"

I know this is such a small distinction, but I felt like Triton only regretted it because of how much is upset his daughter afterwards, but fully knew what he was doing, whereas the Queen hadn't even meant to, and was horrified because she realized she'd almost destroyed something her daughter loved.

I dunno, the Triton scene is like a temper tantrum and is a lot harder for me to watch.

This. Triton was using violence to scare Ariel; it wasn't just him losing control (I think it was partially that, but not to the point where it wasn't an actual conscious choice by him).

At this point, it's a Disney movie since Disney do own Pixar and Merida is going to the Disney Princess line and is referred as a Disney Princess.

No, it's Pixar. Pixar made it, not Disney. Who cares what Disney is doing with her, their studio did not make the movie.

And Disney owns Marvel, is everything that Marvel makes now considered Disney too? What about what Miramax makes? What about all the other companies Disney owns?

I'm sorry - I didn't think the argument that provokes the major plot points that follow would be a spoiler. I thought what happened afterward would be.

It's not just about plot points. I didn't even know they had that argument and the bow-burning thing seems like a fairly big deal.

Doesn't it seem a little to early to be divulging information about scenes from the movie without a spoiler warning?

I didn't mean to give information you didn't want to have, and I understand why you're upset. I actually thought really hard about whether to warn for spoilers there, and decided not to because I didn't think that bit revealed a plot twist, the ending, etc., and I've always thought "spoiler" meant either revealing the ending or revealing plot twists.

When it comes to movies, I tend to view any reveal of a scene not shown in the trailers as a spoiler since people go to the movie not just (or even primarily) for the plot but to enjoy and experience every scene. To me it takes something away from a scene if I already knew what happened in it.
