I feel a bit guilty for this, but a part of me thought it was refreshing that fandom was spewing forth its hate for a male character rather than a female one. It's even more amazing when you consider that it's all love-triangle related, as usually it's the girls who are held entirely responsible for that sort of thing.

Most of the Mako haters I've seen also ship Borra. So...take that "not having to do with a love triangle" thing with a grain of salt. If Mako had stayed with Asami, Borra could have happened, totally! I've heard it so many times, even from BNFs. It makes me roll my eyes constantly at the hypocrisy of it all.

I don't doubt it, but a lot of ship-neutral people like myself loathe the pairing just because it's so awfully written and such a distraction from the more important stuff.

This is generalizing way too much, I for one am a "crack shipper" (Tahnorra, Irosami ftw) and really really dislike Mako, the love triangle deal and the way Makorra was made. And personally, I know a lot of people on this camp who also dislike Mako with a passion. Sometimes it's not about the ships, it's about shitty writing.

Trust me, I know many Mako haters, and none of them ship Borra (myself included). There are so many other reasons to dislike Mako's character other than the fact that Borra didn't happen, lbr here

I was pretty pissed because I DID ship them (they were on the way of being my OTP for the show even) and then show made it unshippable for it.

Same here. I thought they had a lot of potential - someone up-thread mentioned Mako's trust issues, I liked the pro-bending team dynamics, and I could see several possibilities for their developments... instead we got the cringe-worthy episode 5, jerkish Mako, and one of the most boring hook-ups ever.

That's...a bit much on the generalization yourself. Personally I ship Korra/Asami - so my ship wouldn't have happened *regardless* of who Mako ended up with - and I *still* dislike how they played the love triangle. It was really shitty writing.

I'm a Mako-hater, and I don't ship Borra either (except as awesome best bros). In fact at the beginning I casually shipped Makorra (back before all the shit that went down starting in ep 5).

In the end I actually would kind of have preferred it if Korra hadn't wound up with anyone at the end of this season. It's ok for the main character not to have an SO! But it seems like they always have to. =/ Either that, or Korrasami. And I wanted Mako to wind up alone and butthurt and then next season maybe have a chance to realize how he fucked up, and grow from it.

I dislike Mako a lot and I'm neutral on Borra (I thought it might be cute at first, but since Bolin turned out to be such a boring/useless character, I stopped caring).

So no, it doesn't always have to do with shipping.

I agree, it's so refreshing. Even the most staunch "canon pairings = perfection" fans are not having any of the Makorra business. Shitty writing is shitty writing. I'm just concerned that Bryke won't be able to act on the feedback since they've finished writing season 2 before the outcries became loud.

I agree. I'm not happy the love triangle sucked as much as it did, but I'm glad people are going "that dick Mako" and not "that bitch Asami."
