I was actually disappointed by a lot of Korra, not only the finale. I can pinpoint several examples of poor writing. It's almost like HE didn't write it in places.

But that really was pretty anti-climactic. A better thing would have been to leave Korra without bending and have her earn it back. I haven't really talked about it with fandom but it's good someone else feels this way.

I felt this way, too, and in retrospect, there were a lot of places where the writing was clearly sub-par.

I thought it would have been better to leave the "Korra can only airbend" sub-plot unresolved so that we could spend season 2 on Korra earning her bending back. The last minute or so would have been much more appropriate for the ending of season 2 if that were the case.

I was also kind of ticked off that Korra's reason for unlocking her airbending was that her vaguely-established love interest was in trouble. I find it hard to believe that her barely noticeable feelings for Mako could trigger something like that when Korra's bending being taken away couldn't. I honestly think that Korra cares a lot more about her bending than Mako.

As for the poor writing that wasn't restricted to the finale, I'll just put it all in parentheses. (Lin's pointless sacrifice, Naga showing up whenever the writers get bored with the current plot and want to move on, Bolin doing nothing significant, Korra's crippling fear of Amon suddenly disappearing in Episode 5 when it could have been used to enhance her character, never explaining Amon's powers, killing off Tarlok and Noatak so that the writers didn't have to deal with actually resolving their plot thread, spending way too much time explaining Amon's backstory)

So, long story short, I really wanted to see Korra unlock her airbending because she was still willing to fight Amon even without the Avatar's power, then spend season 2 re-learning earthbending with Bolin and Lin, waterbending with Tahno, and firebending with... Mako? I guess Mako would have to lose his bending, which would have been a great way to highlight his severe insecurities which were completely ignored in Season 1. Oh, and Asami fits in there somewhere, too.

But that did not happen and I suppose that there's nothing I can do but appreciate what we did get.
