IA, OP, the finale (and Legend of Korra as a whole) was really disappointing. Just poor writing, pacing and plotting. I didn't mind Lin and Korra getting their bending back, but narratively it was too soon. Their losses didn't really have the impact they deserved if they get a resolution 1-2 episodes later. It's just bad writing not to show them adjusting to life as a non-bender. Also the whole kidnapping the Air kids could have, and should have been cut, tbh. They were never in real jeopardy and it ruined Lin's sacrifice.

I think season 2 will be better, though.

I found Korra trying (and failing) to balance between a kids show and a show for more adult people. It was like every time they had a great storyline idea they needed to somehow make the show kid's friendly again and not focus on the serious issues they started five minutes ago.

OP here, and I marked it secret because the few times I mentioned it online in other fandom places, I pretty much got my head bitten off. I was told that I should go easy on it because they only had one season to work with (not an excuse because this sucked as a mini-series finale as well as a season one finale) and that I was nitpicking.

I was even told by one person that how dare I dislike it because I didn't understand how much hard work goes into making a TV show. Yes, someone really said that to me. I was shocked too. Hard work does not mean it blindly gets my praise.

Yeah, agreed on every count. It started off so well, and aside from the love triangle, everything else was great too, until the finale. I'm still so disappointed.

Why is this a secret? The majority of the online fandom feels this way. Personally I love Korra for what it is, and not what I think it ~should~ have been. Makorra and all. I'm glad they didn't make it ATLA2 Electric Bolinaloo. Honestly, it's already been done people. For three seasons, it has been done.

I adore the last five minutes, it has so much emotion in it.

Disgruntled Legend of Korra fans, you should really shack up with disgruntled LOST fans. You have many things in common. You could even probably start a cook-out meeting schedule.

I was actually disappointed by a lot of Korra, not only the finale. I can pinpoint several examples of poor writing. It's almost like HE didn't write it in places.

But that really was pretty anti-climactic. A better thing would have been to leave Korra without bending and have her earn it back. I haven't really talked about it with fandom but it's good someone else feels this way.

It was almost as bad as the ending of Digimon 2.

It sort of bothered me too (especially the getting her powers back without much effort) - but, I've thought about it and it sort of makes sense.

- With the whole murder/suicide thing I don't think they wanted the end the show on a double downer.
- It's still a kid's show and I understand they wanted a classic happy ending.
- The only alternative would have been a very clear set-up for the next season, but I actually suspect they don't yet know where they're going with that; and that might have forced them to rush the actual finale more.

So yeah, while I do find it disappointing a bit, I can sort of see why that happened.

The first two episodes set up so many good plotlines to resolve over the season, and yet they either dropped them completely or shoved in a quick solution during the last five minutes.

I've ranted enough about the finale elsewhere, but I'm happy that so many other people feel the same. I'm just gonna hope that the second and third seasons will be better.

The "I love YOU Korra! Let us kiss!" pissed me right the hell off, because it felt cheap as hell. Like, "Hooray, Korra saved the day, she shall now be rewarded with the love interest she desires!"

And to be honest, I find that kind of a damaging message that every single show and movie falls back on (do good, get rewarded with the person you want), and this show really didn't need to. Mako and Asami were a good couple. There could have been something to Korra getting past her first crush and moving on. A certain level of maturity to that aspect of the show that would have gelled better with the tone set at the beginning.

Even if it needed to be kept, it got way too rushed. As you say, it happened right on the heels of Makko being told to give her space.


And the "zoom, congrats, you have your bending back" moment was equally cheap. Disappointingly so. And I understand, they thought they were only going to have one season to tell the story in, but it's still kind of a shame. I have to admit, what I was hoping for, hell, expecting at this point, was that yes, she would lose her bending, and the second season would start with her having to connect to her more spiritual side to regain it. Aang had to meditate to speak with the past Avatars, and he was already a very spiritual kid. Korra just...cried a bit.

My ideal ending would have still involved Aang and Korra speaking, and Korra given access to the Avatar state (reaching the spiritual part of being the Avatar, maybe with reference to how she had opened her chakras over the course of the show?), and just... ending there. She'd still have to find a way to relearn Water, Fire, and Earthbending, would need to master Airbending, there'd still be no immediate resolution regarding her bending being taken, they'd still have to work out how to restore other people's bending (I really, really would have loved to see Lin fighting without bending!), and, best of all, no cringeworthy Makorra ending!

It'd actually give something to focus towards for season two XD;; As it stands, what's LEFT?

For the second season, everything will fall apart. Makorra's flaws will be brought to the front and every little bit of "progress" will be shown to actually have made things worse.

Wanna know what made me throw up my hands and say "fuck it, this is dumb" for the finale, even before all the stuff you listed? The PLANES. The fucking PLANES. Do you KNOW how long it takes to get a pilot's license? Or train people to fly without access to flight simulators? In secret? So they can dodge firebenders? NO NO NO NO NO Amon would have taken one look at that plan and said "screw that, let's stick with the airships, we know how to pilot them already and they're not FUCKING INSANE."

I agree - with this, and the following secret. I wasn't as upset about the Amon bit as the rest though there were some unanswered questions. Maybe they can be answered later in the series, but now that Amon and Tarrlok are both (apparently) dead, it seems their arc has ended. :(

The only thing that bothered me about the finale was HOW THE FUCK DID AMON CAPTURE TENZIN AND HIS FAMILY?!?!

Nobody ever answers that! Korra's even like, "We saw them get away!" And we did! But nobody ever says how the hell Amon was able to capture them!

It also makes Lin's sacrifice completely pointless, but at least she gets her bending back anyways so, meh.
