I've been avoiding this because it screams, "queer baiting: THE PROCEDURAL". That and poor reviews.

I guess I should try picking it up, or just watch certain eps? Just to be fair.

It definitely has its flaws. The procedural aspect is the biggest, imo. They're not very creative with their crimes, nor mysterious. I end up shouting, "Ha, called it!" half the time. The characters' dynamics, thus far, are really great, though. They have strong women, they're comedic but not insulting toward the idea of counseling, they play on favored tropes, etc. It's nice, light fun. I think throwing a serial killer or something into the mix will spice up their relatively boring crimes - especially if they make it a cool serial killer arc - but then, I'm a Criminal Minds fan, haha.

And I know what you mean about 'queer baiting'. A show like Common Law makes it blatantly apparent USA Network knows what sort of fandom this will inspire, that they knew even beforehand. OP can't resist shipping Travis and Wes because the creators likely intended viewers to do so. After all, they're hyper-aware of it in other shows like Suits and White Collar. Like always, however, it's so freaking frustrating that they'd never even consider putting Wes and Travis into a non-platonic relationship. They'll shoehorn a romance with women in eventually and may do so at the expense of strong characterization. I'm just surprised they haven't yet (aside from subtle indicatives), since in the very first episode of Suits they had Mike tell Rachel he loved her (playfully, but still, Rachel's now 'Mike's love interest' with hardly any individual development). I'll watch CL for the light fun and stay hopeful (not for actual Travis/Wes, since that would be too hopeful, but for plot improvement), yet keep hoping that, one day, USA Network will get some balls.

This. Just. This comment. Anon, do you live in my brain?

(Totally agree on the Rachel thing, too - when she went out drinking with Donna and there was some playful propositioning before they pretended to be random people, I remember thinking that it would be so much more interesting if she ended up hitting it off with Donna and they ended up in a stable, healthy background relationship. Rather than this stupid "Mike Ross is completely 100% heterosexual" thing they've got going. I almost feel sorry for Rachel, or rather the character Rachel could have been if she wasn't limited to basically being a plot device.)
