I'm crushing so hard on Warren Kole you wouldn't believe it. Also, the show itself ships them, so don't be ashamed.

It's hard to watch this show knowing that they will NEVER kiss :(

OMG, that's one of my pet peeves when it comes to police/crime shows. The vests are pretty much always too small! I mean, Hotch's vest on Criminal Minds doesn't even overlap at the sides, wtf!

When I got my vest I had to try it on first, and it had to be long enough to at least touch my belt and wide enough to overlap at the sides.

I'm with you... and after the last episode, I'm so very definitely writing a fic!

(Anonymous) 2012-07-06 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
So is it worth watching? I didn't bother at first because the whole "send them to therapy to fix their partnership" idea seemed ridiculous at first but now I'm curious...

It's fun. It's really funny when other characters make fun of them for it, or worse, just have very blase reactions to it. Like it's not that far-fetched to think they need it, since they really, really do.

Definitely worth it! I was totally hooked within the first two minutes of the pilot.

Yes! Between the therapy, the cases and the pop culture references, it's a great show. You won't regret catching up.

Right there with you, anon. It's ridiculous, but they're just adorable together. Then again, Wes would probably snap, and kill Travis in his sleep for leaving his toothbrush out on the sink for the umpteenth time in a row.

[identity profile] galerian-ash.livejournal.com 2012-07-06 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Never heard of this series before, but my interest is definitely piqued. I'll be sure to download and check it out ASAP, since God knows there's no point in waiting for it to (possibly) air in my country. So thanks for the indirect rec!

Keep the faith, anon. Maybe Common Law will blow up like Suits and White Collar. :D

[personal profile] celestialchild 2012-07-07 07:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I think there's a good chance if they up the writing. The relationships on the show are really fantastic (not just Wes and Travis). Years back I thought even Psych had a modest start before they figured out how to extrapolate the chemistry between all the actors.

[identity profile] ladyknightanka.livejournal.com 2012-07-07 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
Common Law secret, yes!

I wish DW would let me use my Travis/Wes LJ icon. Ah well. Feel no shame, OP. I think the CL writers want us to slash them. I mean, look at some of those scenes, and they have such chemistry. ♥

I hope the fandom blows up, too, btw. I wrote one of the first fics for it, but haven't had the chance to write a second. I've been reading pretty much everything produced, though, and urgh, WANT MOAR.

People of f!s, watch this fun, lighthearted show and join us in loving it. ♥

I've been avoiding this because it screams, "queer baiting: THE PROCEDURAL". That and poor reviews.

I guess I should try picking it up, or just watch certain eps? Just to be fair.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-07 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
It definitely has its flaws. The procedural aspect is the biggest, imo. They're not very creative with their crimes, nor mysterious. I end up shouting, "Ha, called it!" half the time. The characters' dynamics, thus far, are really great, though. They have strong women, they're comedic but not insulting toward the idea of counseling, they play on favored tropes, etc. It's nice, light fun. I think throwing a serial killer or something into the mix will spice up their relatively boring crimes - especially if they make it a cool serial killer arc - but then, I'm a Criminal Minds fan, haha.

And I know what you mean about 'queer baiting'. A show like Common Law makes it blatantly apparent USA Network knows what sort of fandom this will inspire, that they knew even beforehand. OP can't resist shipping Travis and Wes because the creators likely intended viewers to do so. After all, they're hyper-aware of it in other shows like Suits and White Collar. Like always, however, it's so freaking frustrating that they'd never even consider putting Wes and Travis into a non-platonic relationship. They'll shoehorn a romance with women in eventually and may do so at the expense of strong characterization. I'm just surprised they haven't yet (aside from subtle indicatives), since in the very first episode of Suits they had Mike tell Rachel he loved her (playfully, but still, Rachel's now 'Mike's love interest' with hardly any individual development). I'll watch CL for the light fun and stay hopeful (not for actual Travis/Wes, since that would be too hopeful, but for plot improvement), yet keep hoping that, one day, USA Network will get some balls.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-07 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
This. Just. This comment. Anon, do you live in my brain?

(Totally agree on the Rachel thing, too - when she went out drinking with Donna and there was some playful propositioning before they pretended to be random people, I remember thinking that it would be so much more interesting if she ended up hitting it off with Donna and they ended up in a stable, healthy background relationship. Rather than this stupid "Mike Ross is completely 100% heterosexual" thing they've got going. I almost feel sorry for Rachel, or rather the character Rachel could have been if she wasn't limited to basically being a plot device.)

Urgggg on the day I'm late and the electricity is probably about to go off we get a Common Law secret. THIS SHOW. I'll just post one gif, then.

Photobucket

Why would anyone be ashamed of shipping it? The commercials practically advertise the pairing! As well as the show itself, Jesus Christ. It is kind of ridiculous, but there is NO shame in loving this show or shipping Travis/Wes; they're the fun, lovable kind of ridiculous. And how beautiful are they! There could never be enough fic for these two. Never.

[personal profile] nicheled 2012-07-07 04:50 am (UTC)(link)
Ditto to all of this.

And I think your description of Travis/Wes – speaking of, if anyone could watch this show and not ship them, I'd be pretty much shocked – fits the show in general. Yeah, it's a tad (perhaps more) ridiculous at times, but it's the good kind of ridiculous — the silly, fun kind that makes you smile.

haha, yeah it's pretty hard not to ship them. It's not the greatest show, but it certainly gives you fanfic material.

Here's the kink meme if anyone is curious: http://common-meme.livejournal.com/1855.html

Loooooveee Common Law! And I'm not even really much of a slasher and I'm right there cheering them on. So no shame. They're well-written and their relationship is glorious to watch.
