But LJ is like that too! And pretty much every other place with fandoms.
Yes, that sounds horrible, but most of the time it isn't the site's fault, it is the people on the site and the people drawn to those kind of sites are mostly the same everywhere.

Tumblr hasn't ruined any fandoms for me, but I can't stand it as a fandom platform. I tend to avoid it.

I think tumblr can be a great place, you just have to be careful. Don't hesitate to unfollow people. Block people. Use tumblr savior. There's a lot of stupidity on tumblr and it's more in-your-face there than on LJ, but there are ways to stay away from the wank.

Maybe you should browse it in small doses instead? It's very much an instant, quick hit atmosphere, so the amount of wank overload, or fandom overload, or whatever can understandably make someone tired of it.

Heck, I don't spend much time on my dashboard (maybe the first two pages once a day), and I just go directly to the people I follow, or my not-so busy tracked tags.

Of course, that's assuming it's not the generalised attitude you're talking about in regards to your fandoms there. Woobie!Loki OVERLOAAAAD.

In the past six months, my fandom has experienced several big scandal/shitstorm/messes, all of which have been more frequent and far worse than any scandals in the years the fandom's existed. All of these new scandals either started on or were perpetuated by tumblr.
So yeah, tumblr can go fuck itself.

In my fandom on Tumblr, the top three best GIF makers for my fandom are total jackasses. Sure, they make beautiful, creative fandom GIFs, but man, these jacksasses are hard to like because they're obnoxious, immature, or rude.

I spend a decent amount of time on tumblr, but really only searching the tags I like. I'm not interested in creating an account because I just think it would be impossible to keep up with, but for some people I can see how tumblr could be extremely irritating. Tumblr users are on LJ and other sites too, but the way tumblr is set up makes it harder to avoid the things you don't like. Also posts tend to be much shorter and casual, but I guess I've grown used to it for the most part. When the tag gets boring (people posting the same thing repeatedly, too much 'right in the feels', whatever), I just give it a break for a while.

...Everyone's gonna say this but seriously, just don't go! You'll probably be much, much happier if you distance yourself from it. As you can see from the comments here, it's not for everyone, and not ALL of fandom behave the way many tumblr folk do, or are interested in the same things.

It does that! It's ruined Hetalia fandom for me. It's turned it into dumb teenager drama shit, and makes it even more cutesy and moe than it has any right to be. It has also killed commenting culture. I don't give a hell about notes; please comment on fics, you lazy-butts!

Stay off of Tumblr? Or perhaps just avoid the wankers. There are awesome people on Tumblr and not-so awesome people too, same with everywhere else. Don't let the fucktards ruin your fun. Ignore the hell out of them and surround yourself with awesome people instead and enjoy yourself!

You know, I just go there for the GIFs tbh I scroll right past everything else. But really, isn't there wank (or the potential)everywhere in most fandoms? I simply chose not to participate where I see it. That is a side of fandom I don't enjoy, but have found easy to avoid. I spend time with other people who don't get involved in that.So far, it has worked out for me.

I don't hate Tumblr but I hate that it's killing my fandom on LJ. So many really great people have migrated over there and might make an LJ post once every month or week or whatever, and it's usually to rec something on Tumblr.

Tumblr is not a good medium for anything more than a quick graphic followed by a bunch of quick reblogs and 'likes'. It's annoying.

I miss the talk, the memes, the analysis, the metas, the fics longer than 500 words. Fuck I even miss the batshit.

Okay.

I may hate Tumblr a little.

Aww, sorry to hear that OP. I admit I'm only on there for one small fandom, but despite the lack of being able to discus stuff the fandom experience has been awesome for me. I even made a new fandom friend. It makes me sad to hear it apparently suck for everyone else.

I take it you weren't in LJ fandom in the early 2000s, oh my God. Some of the Domilijah on LJ made Tumblr fandom look completely sane.

yeah, it pretty much ruined the sherlock fandom for me. I didn't really participate in it as such, but I felt like I was drowning in drama despite following about two people who actually posted any angry drama stuff. I still like the show, and I tried to defend the fandom but I've given up now. It's a shame that the batshit fans always have a more noticeable presence than the calm, intelligent ones.
