Every person shitting on Elementary BEFORE IT HAS EVEN AIRED needs to get a grip. It's not a canonical version of the ACD books, it's not an adaptation of Sherlock (which doesn't even follow the ACD books--hell, even Moffat's convinced ACD actually liked Holmes when Holmes hated Sherlock enough to attempt to kill him off), and no one's said it was ~feminist. (Not even people making fun of crazy Tumblr Sherlock stans on Tumblr has said it was a ~feminist cure all.) Elementary might just be, at the very least, a popular show, and if it gets at least a second season on CBS, all the Elementary haters in fandom as well in the media will have to deal with it.

I'm not saying Sherlock is a completely faithful adaptation, but what does Moffat's opinion of ACD have to do with anything? ACD's dislike of Holmes only clearly appears in the canon in The Final Problem the events of which Sherlock covered as well.

ACD's letters on the subject are clear, however. Writing Holmes "keeps me from better things" (to sample just one on the subject). There is more background available than just the stories, you know.

It's because Moffat has been ranting about how Elementary will "degrade the brand."

You forget that ACD started to hate Holmes mostly because a) people didn't give a shit about the other crap he wrote because of him and b)he wanted to be known for something else than just his writing, especially about Holmes. He didn't start out with "God, I hate this character so much, I want to write about him being the best detective in the world to torture myself".
