Wicked's translation from book to play is so totally sterotypical it's like a parody of itself. It's like "Episodes", or that episode of Bones where Brennan's book is turned into a movie. In making the musical, they took out everything that made the book unique, real, and deep, and replaced it with everything that makes musicals formulaic, lowest common denominator, and popular.
