Yeah, I read the books first. When I saw there was a musical, I was really confused. I loved the musical as a separate story. I liked the first book too. Or rather, I liked so much what he'd done to the world, the characters, and the history that I didn't care he was clearly trying make Oz the edgiest edge to edge edgily with twice the edginess. After that, I feel like his ability to effectively narrate a story diminished. Like he didn't seem to be able to handle style and tone and make them fit with the plot. I like Liir, though.
