"there is more to shipping in SPN than Destiel" yes I believe Wincest is actually the most popular ship?

but yeah otherwise absolutely fair enough. this... doesn't really have to be a secret.

Not OP, but I can see where OP might get the idea Destiel is the most popular ship. I'm not even in the freaking fandom, and yet everytime I hear anything about Supernatural? It's always Diestiel. I *used* to hear about other pairings, mostly Wincest, sometimes as well...but it's like the pairing has disappeared off the map.

And this is with all the supernatural fans I know - so it's not just one person, or even specific group since a number don't know each other.

It could be because season 6, especially the second part of it, was basically all about this pairing. The show used to be about the brothers but after what happened at the end of season 6 it was like the creators told us to accept Destiel as the show's major drama generator and run with it, and it hasn't changed since.

s6 and s7 were about the slow collapse of Cas' friendship with BOTH brothers and even Bobby. I saw nothing about it as 'Destiel', Dean just has more faith in family than Bobby and Sam.

Arguable. I don't think anyone has a clue how to take an accurate count of such a thing, really. I see more Destiel come across my Tumblr dash, but then I'm a Cas fan (who ships neither Destiel nor Wincest) so it stands to reason I would.

I saw it pointed out, however, in a recent discussion of this very topic, that the 'Other Slash' fic section of spnnewsletter (which most days is mostly Destiel) is typically longer than the Wincest section anymore. And there does seem to be a tremendous amount of complaining about Destiel shippers, some of which I sympathize with, some not so much.

Somebody really should try to devise a method for getting a rough headcount of who's in which camp (or neither,) but where would you even start?

Gah, HTML fail; sorry about that. *Facepalms*

A lot of the content of the newsletter depends on the editor of the day. One of them *never* has *any* Sam/Dean in the newsletter they code, and it's generally the most content-light newsletter of the week.
