i honest to god don't care if you like the ship so long as people don't claim it's canon. then i get annoyed. which i know i shouldn't, but i can't help it.

it can be canon all you like in magical fandom fanfic land, but in the show itself is it not canon. please differentiate.

So what? SPN is a huge fandom, I'm sure you can find fic and art for whatever you ship. So you don't like a popular ship. Big deal. Most people don't like some popular ship in one of their fandoms and they also have to see it all over the place. It's called life.

Mmm yes. Part of me wants to argue with "omgtheirloveissocanon" shippers on Tumblr, because no, really, there IS someone on Earth who doesn't see how in love they are. I'm right here, see? I'm the one waving? Do you see?

I don't see two best friends, I see a Human and an other thing that is puppeteering a Human body. And try as I might, I can't see Dean and Cas together because of that. Every time I think about it, I can help but think of this;



Too me it's like a giant falling in love with an ant. Even though there is that story in the Bible where this very thing did happen between "the sons of God" and the "daughters of Eve." Still, it must have been very weird and very messy.

How do you manage to accidentally 'come across' fic for something so often that it becomes an annoyance? It's a massive fandom, I know it can't be that hard to avoid it. Maybe branch out a little?

...although, now I think about it, it must be really annoying to be a Cas fan who doesn't ship him at all with Dean.

I don't actually ship it. As in, I don't want to see it canon. I can not read slash into what I see. But I'll read the fic(just like with almost every pairing) and I'll notice things that might be interpreted as especially slashy.

I think I feel that way about all the slash ships in SPN, and I guess some of my het ships too.

The point is, you're not doing anything wrong by not shipping it. I've found, though, that most Dean/Cas shippers I've seen are more than willing to keep it away from you if you express a dislike for it.

More to the point: I like Dean/Cas...I do think the shippers stretch it sometimes. Like sometimes there's a moment that deserves a lot of appreciation because it shows how much they care about each other, plain and simple, and it gets turned into "If you don't see this as being slashy you're crazy." This is hardly unique to SPN fandom, I just think it's odd that I see a lot more of this attitude with Dean/Cas than with Sam/Dean (I mean, incest doesn't usually stop certain kinds of fans from trying to argue that it's canon, does it?) And generally I don't give a crap, if you want to think it's canon you can go ahead and do that (ahem "the angel whose in love with you") but when there is seemingly a low tolerance of appreciating it as a bromance I think that's kind of sad.

I've never been interested in it either. That said, people can enjoy it if that's what they want, and it's no skin off my back.

Though I will say by the time I stopped watching SPN I was so tired of hearing about the pairing that I didn't miss the fandom.

You aren't the only one anon, I don't ship Dean/Cas, nor do I ship the Wincest. This might be the only show I don't ship. But live and let live. However, the fact that the writers wrote an episode wanking the shippers will always make me love this show.

I don't really watch spn, so I'll just focus on how the "shove it down my throat" phrasing coupled with the fact that (as far as I can tell) both characters are male makes me very uncomfortable.

OP, there's plenty more to shipping in SPN than Destiel. It's not even the most popular pairing (Wincest is) and besides, there's other slash pairings, as well as het and femmeslash, not to mention gen.

I don't like Destiel myself, it squicks me out tbh (ironic considering my OTP is Sam/Dean, hah) but...to each their own. As long as they don't insist it's canon, I leave them to it.

(It majorly pisses me off when they insist it's canon though.)

As someone who ships Destiel, I'm sorry this gets shoved down your throat. I make a point not to do that to anyone because it's just my opinion. I wish more shippers would realize that.

Not all Destiel shippers are nuts. Some of us are perfectly rational people that would love to discuss other aspects of the show with you. But the squeakiest wheel is the one that gets the most attention and all that.

Oh, please, like what you wanna like. Personally I love them, but the best friends thing is totally valid. That's part of it to me. I feel like I say this in every fucking post, but am I the ONLY person for whom "shipping" means "I love their meaningful interaction and want to see lots & lots more of it"? Crikey.

I'm of two minds on this. First and foremost, though: Supernatural has such a large fanbase that you can find WHATEVER you want, pretty much. I know; I primarily ship rarepairs and characters that often have no input from Sam, Dean and Castiel. And yet I still find plenty of fic and art to sate my appetite.

You don't get to be the jerk who hates and complains about all the ~evil Dean/Castiel posts on comms where every pairing is allowed. I'm guessing you mean all inclusive communities, because why would a large amount D/C be in, say, Wincest? If you ship Wincest, and surprise D/C ninjas in, okay, I feel you, but otherwise, those comms are all inclusive for a reason. Go follow Wincest (if you like that), Dean_Jo, SPN_Gen, SPN_Rarepair, and/or the scores of other communities where you WON'T see "domestic Dean/Castiel". I know plenty of people who DON'T ship Dean/Castiel are feel just as included as everyone else.

I will concede, however, that a lot of Dean/Castiel shippers can be annoying. When they sent out mass PMs for that stupid, unofficial pairing poll, for example, and suggested we vote once a minute for like 10+ hours, I thought, lol no. Screw that, I've got a life. Also, don't PM me with stuff like that. Ever. And I ship Dean/Castiel.

Obsessiveness isn't exclusive to them, however. A lot of Wincest fans bother me, too, with how bitter they are by the mere existence of Dean/Castiel. Recently, an exchange challenge for Dean/Castiel was created, and I saw SO MANY butthurt Wincest shippers railing on it. My thought then was, holy fuck, WHO CARES? You do not have to be involved with that community in any way, shape or form! There are so many challenges in SPN comms, for so many characters and pairings, where you can do whatever you like! Create your own exchange challenge where Dean/Castiel is against the rules!

So yeah, I don't think there's really higher ground to stand on, though maybe you don't ship either? I say again, though, that I'm very happy in SPN fandom - probably because I ship Dean/Castiel, Wincest, Sassy, Balthazar/Cas, Dean/Gabriel, rare character/rare character, rare character/popular character...and pretty much everything else. Multishipping FTW.

Just going to start this off with saying that I'm a very diehard Destiel shipper.

Honestly, there are people who are the bad eggs in every corner of the fandom, I will wholeheartedly admit that there are stupid people in the Destiel side of the fandom. Much like how the majority of Wincest shippers are pretty cool but then there are the small percentage of nasties.

...but if you're annoyed by Destiel and "domestic!fic" you come across, without it being from the obnoxious ones, when it's just us minding our own business and participating in something we like, then there are ways to avoid said part of the fandom if it really bugs you that much.

Don't listen to people who tell you what you should or shouldn't ship, anon. You're not "doing it wrong": if you don't see the ship, that's fine.
As for the rabid Destiel (or Wincest, or Sabriel or whatever) fans, they'll always be there - you can't stop them any more than they can stop you. If you "don't want to see" a certain kind of fic, you just have to look a bit harder, I guess.

and anyway, I'm pretty sure Wincest is still bigger. Even among people who don't ship that, there's all kinds of people who don't ship Dean and Cas. You just seem to be hanging out in a very D/C heavy part of the fandom

I was just continually underwhelmed by all the things that were supposed to be their big "moments" (especially the "more profound bond" line christ you'd think that was some kind of declaration of love if you listen to some people).

Though I will stay clinging to my piece of Sastiel driftwood of could-have-been-really-awesome-because-of-parallels-and-contrasts-in-characters-but-really-got-shafted-by-the-writers.
