I hang out in the Wincest fandom, and I hardly ever come across Dean/Castiel (unless I'm on tumblr).

OTOH, I don't think there's much Dean-Castiel friendship fic in the wincest side of fandom. There's a lot more "Castiel? Who is Castiel? LALALALA, I CAN'T HEAR YOU."

And if you never want to stumble across Destiel or Wincest, I'm not sure where to send you. Back in the day there was a thriving gen-only corner of SPN fandom, but most of writers I know of in that corner jumped aboard Castiel/Destiel fandom as soon as it started splintering from old school SPN fandom.

*shrug* There might still be a gen corner of SPN fandom, if you go looking? But given how sharp the divide between Sam-Dean SPN fandom and Dean-Cas SPN fandom is, I don't know if gen SPN fandom will be entirely it's own thing, or if you'd have to look in a subsection of Destiel/Castiel fandom to get Dean-Cas gen and look in a subsection of old-school/Wincest fandom if you want Sam-Dean gen.
