I don't actually ship it. As in, I don't want to see it canon. I can not read slash into what I see. But I'll read the fic(just like with almost every pairing) and I'll notice things that might be interpreted as especially slashy.

I think I feel that way about all the slash ships in SPN, and I guess some of my het ships too.

The point is, you're not doing anything wrong by not shipping it. I've found, though, that most Dean/Cas shippers I've seen are more than willing to keep it away from you if you express a dislike for it.

yeah honestly the only thing i can see in the show in terms of destiel are little things (and maybe teases because writers are trolls and know it'll keep the viewers up) that can be interpreted as slashy mostly by people who actually like the ship.

otherwise it's not there at all.

Yeah, I agree. You can interpret it as a love story all you want, but all I see in the canon is a complicated friendship that's had ups and downs and more downs and hey look how about downs for a change. And 620 was one of the greatest examples of a friendship falling apart that I've ever seen.

Course, this will lead me into a rant about fandom's obsession with sexualizing friendships because they're more intense/strong than they've experienced in their lives. So I'll shut up now. XD

I couldn't agree more. I wouldn't deny anyone their ship, but after humor/crack, my fandom interests lie so much more in the friendship and family side of things when it comes to relationships, which is one of the big draws of SPN for me. I can take or leave most "romantic" ships in fandom on most days. Not that I wont read those fics on occasion. But daddy drama, brotherly angst and friendships that are like family like they had with Cas and Bobby? That is golden to me.

Yep. To me, Supernatural(and other shows with strong relationships) is more about the relationships and the family and that side, rather than the romantic side. Plenty of people are into the romantic side, and that's great, I'm friends with lots of them, and sometimes, so am I. But I don't watch 'cause I'm waiting for the next slashy suggestion. I watch 'cause I like watching the evolution of characters, relationships, and motifs.

My favorite thing about Supernatural is that if focuses on relationships that aren't romantic. That seems to be so rare on television these days. I love all the attention on family relationships. Cas and Dean's friendship fascinates me. I think it's because we got to see it start from scratch and Cas was a relatively late addition who managed to build an incredible friendship with one of the leads. It's just not the type of relationship that I see everyday on the shows I watch.

I read Destiel fic. I enjoy Destiel fic. But, in canon, their difficult friendship is enough for me. It's really become the highlight of the show for me. I hope Carver allows them to heal the rift between them. The angst is good, but I miss their season 5 dynamic.

I totally wish there were more non-romantic relationships on tv; hell, if I had my way, there would be a whole lot more male/female just friends on TV. But yeah, I agree completely. That's part of what's so fascinating. Don't get me wrong, I love Sam and Dean's relationship too, but I love Dean and Cas and their relationship.

Seconding everything in your second bit. IA completely.
