I'm not sure this wasn't a hoax but a while back some sites were passing around a study that proved women who swallowed semen had lower rates of depression.

I can only imagine all the "Are you feeling a little sad, honey? I don't mind helping you with that because I'm a good boyfriend who just wants to take care of you!".

That might not be entirely bunk. Semen contains a lot of hormones, a number of which are geared towards keeping sperm alive, but some of which are mood related. There's cortisol (increases affection), oxytocin (elevates mood), serotonin (an antidepressant), and melatonin (makes you sleepy). All of these chemicals are naturally present in the body already to some degree, but regular additions of them will make a difference over time. (Scientific American has an article here, for the curious.)

There are two obvious caveats to this information, though. One, semen isn't naturally meant to be orally ingested (hurr hurr). Not to say that you can't, but simply that that isn't how it's set up to work. The vagina is an ideal environment for drug-absorbtion with lots of blood vessels setting under very thin skin. So I don't know how effectively these things will get into the bloodstream when swallowed. Two, semen will only have direct contact with an absorptive surface during unprotected sex.

...None of which leads me to believe that sex can cure bronchitis, lamentably.

Like that old "Sex makes you healthy!" thing. Maybe it does, but it could also just be that healthy people have more sex and very sick people don't have the energy/inclination to bang. Therefore you get results that link health and an active sex life.

Maybe less depressed women are giving more blowjobs in general? As a person with diagnosed depression, I can tell you right now that when I'm having an episode sucking dick is probably the last thing I feel like doing.

That was almost exactly the stock response I pulled out every time I heard someone talking about it. Minus my eye-rolling.

Do you mean correlation =/= causation? Otherwise you're gonna have to spell it out for me.

Yes. != is the syntax for "not equal to" in C (programming language).

I kinda got that but I'm not sure what the end =/ was about?
