I was on vacation a couple of weeks ago when that entitled Spike fan was all butthurt in the comments, but GOOD LORD.

Like, Spike is one of my favorite characters on the show, but I cannot with 90% of Spike fans.

Agreed. I like Spike, but that doesn't mean I don't know what a fucking psycho he is, and that he's done horrible, unforgivable things. He's not really a good guy, even when he technically is one. He's spoiled, selfish, arrogant, and childish. But he's fascinating to watch.

Well I don't like how Mark Watches handles Spike in general, but I figured that out early on, and did the *sane* thing. I stopped having anything to do with Mark Watches. Honestly, no one is forced to. *rolls eyes* And I will freely admit to being a rabid over-the-top Spike fan. I just never saw the use in beating my head against a wall with people who don't agree with me over my adoration of him. I'm sure I look just as nuts as say, Riley fans look to me.

I shipped no-one on Buffy and I still hated how they focused on him until the show I used to love went down the toilet.

Not the OP--

Your implication rules out Angel (the Series) fans who couldn't care less about Angel/Buffy--and even actively rooted for that ship to sink--but found the mother show grew a lot less compelling once he became the primary focus.

Seriously, I loved Spike through Buffy S5. I just came to find that I had no interest whatsoever in seeing him redeemed.

Question: At what point does having an opinion that's different from yours become "pandering" to Spike "fen."

I *think* what the OP means is that Mark clearly isn't enraptured by Spike. He doesn't hate the guy, and sometimes finds him worth talking about, but Spike is just obviously not one of his favorites.

So, for Mark to suddenly start expounding at length on All Things Spike 24/7 would seem to indicate he's either undergone a conversion or has caved into pressure for a vocal part of the fandom (which, let's face it, is plausible--he's already started monetizing his blogging by selling e-books and doing tours).

You know, Spike was actually introduced in the series pretty early on. Yes, he only became more prominent later, but he's as much a part of the Show as Buffy, Xander or Willow.

Clearly, you're free not to like him, but don't be irrationally angry if people write about a character that was actually a really important part of the show.

Also, that show stopped airing nearly a decade ago...GET OVER IT.

i got the impression that op was annoyed because spike's character arc took over the entire last two seasons, not because he existed at all

I heard Mark's gonna just refer to BTVS reviews as "Spike and other people" from now on.

Poor OP. Still bitter all these years. Maybe growing up and realizing people care about and like things that you may not care about or like is a good idea? People like and care about Spike. He's a character they care about. Someone wanting to know what Mark thought of Spike's actions in a particular episode is valid because hey, unlike you, maybe they actually like Spike and would like Mark to expound on the character. That's okay. You know what else is okay? Not liking Spike. Both are completely valid opinions. So stop whining and realize that people will still like Spike, no matter how butthurt you get over it.

I never got over my epic Thing for Spike (hell, I taped all his appearances onto one special video and used to watch it over and over...) but it never fails to make me lol when people get so butthurt over stuff like this.
