So...basically they state the date was just a way for Bolin to show his comic relief side, and Korra had zero romantic interest in him. Basically hammering in Borra never had a chance. I'm wondering what's the thought on this?

I don't think they were fan baiting. They just intended for the date to be comical, and not what some of the fans thought it was. Basically a "Korra falling for Bolin" episode.

Then again, they do like to poke fun at their fans (The Zutara book-air thing)

Eh, people just need to stop caring for shipping validation from creators and start enjoying what they actually like. Be free, y'all!

So they spent a whole episode building up a character just to knock him down and then shove him to the side? Nice.

I never thought or cared about Borra having a chance, but what was the point of the episode then? To show the comic relief side of Bolin- something that we had already seen? To spur Mako into some sort of action- something that was achieved later when Korra was kidnapped?

Man, this series. I love it, but the story telling needed some (a lot) of cleaning up.

They wanted a lighthearted break, I think. And...their intent was not to knock Bolin down. Bolin is a comic relief character, he's...not as deep as the fandom has made him. I think that's part of the problem-Fanon being too adored and mixed into canon. IDK

It may have not been the intention to "knock him down," but it is canon that he saw Korra as a potentional romantic partner and was saddened by the knowledge that she only saw him as a friend. He got over it, so the episode really served no narrative purpose. It's a kids show, yeah. But, if you have 12 twenty minute episodes of space and you are going to pick a serious subject for your plot, you should devote your narrative to exploring the issue and find other ways to lighten things up rather that wasting time with diversions that serve no purpose. Imo, of course.

Dide you hear about the update on season 1/2, LoK divided up into 4 books?

I'm still trying to work out my feelings. I felt LoK started off really strongly, but I stopped enjoying it around episode 7 when it became all about Mako and was completely :I for the finale. (I'm guessing Iroh was being introduced for the next season, but I didn't appreciate having new character after new character in the finale.)

I want to look forward to it, I really want to look forward to it because Korra herself was awesome.

But I can't seem to make myself.

Pretty upset over this too. I'm normally fairly easy to please with plots and pairings. but the whole thing ended up being poorly paced. I'm still not sure why I should even care for most of the characters, especially the main two.

With more episodes, they'll have more time to flesh them out. Bolin's VA said he has an arc in season 2, where he grows up a bit. Iroh is going to reprise his role...and hey, we might even see Kya!
