Me too. I think it's the vulnerability and desperation that draws me in.

It can be so intimate and intense, and the person doing the asking is often demonstrating not just their vulnerability but also their strength and honesty. Fusillez-moi, dit Enjolras - I'm so hooked on this. I was completely spoiled by Final Fantasy XIII in this regard; two (very) different characters take this kink for a ride.

I found the Highlander episode on youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GS-YbsWP73U&t=37m06s - the link's to the start of the Methos/MacLeod fight scene. It's less than 3 minutes long but nnnnnngh it hits a LOT of my spots (tentacles?).

Me three! Something about a character having another character's life in their hands and just ... weighing the options while the other character is on their knees, expecting death, maybe even begging for it ... *fans self*
(And if they end up being spared? Oh man, I'm shipping those two like wildfire.)

I think it's the combination of ultimate power and ultimate helplessness. It's a situation that gives unique insight into who these characters are, deep down, which is sometimes heartbreaking, sometimes scary, and always fascinating.
