This reminds me of how much I wanted Ezio/Suleiman after Revelations, and how it was nowhere to be found. Seriously, "It is a relief to see you again, mio bel menestrello (my handsome minstrel)." ~~But I ship Ezio/Leonardo too and there's plenty of that, so I can't complain.~~

Also, there's some pretty hot Azazel/Charles art out there, but IDK about fics. I don't wander much from Charles/Erik because I'm predictable.

It does suck when there isn't more art/fic/etc to suit your tastes, but this is not an uncommon thing for people in fandom to experience either. I know it's happened to me before and will again.

Maybe you could try writing your own fic? Maybe you'd inspire others to write themselves; you never know.

Suleiman got such little love from the AC fandom, I've no idea why. I loved the character and his interactions with Ezio. Guess Yusuf overshadowed him.

I think you're right and people just got swept up in the Yusuf love. (Or still focused on Leonardo.)

From the bit of the fandom I've seen there isn't actually all that much variety in pairings so I'm not too surprised he didn't get any love. He was just forgotten. :(

I liked him just as much as Yusuf, and they were both adorable imo.

Where is the Ezio/Leonardo fic? I looked on the AO3 and was disappointed. That was all Altair/Malik stuff, and I don't care about them.

I'd almost say this was me except I don't like slash. I still always pick the weirdest characters to obsess over.

oh man you and me both OP, you and me both. I always pick the side characters to obsess over, it's not even funny anymore. I used to think there was something wrong with me, but then I realized that I just don't like the archetypal character traits they use for main characters. Usually (and I'm generalizing here) main ones have these conventionally appealing personalities and understandable negative traits like stubbornness or being headstrong. My cup of tea lies with chaotic neutral type characters who are confident in what they are, not very common in leading roles in my fandom medium.

OMG... are you me? And I think you just figured it out why I usually don't get the appeal of the main characters in the way that I would like to fawn over them in fandom. They just don't inspire me. I have kept wondering why that is and I think you just hit the nail right on the head.

I know how it feels. I mean, most of my ships are canon, but if I stray from the canon it's obscure ships forever.

I feel the exact same way with pretty much all my fandoms.

I'm a "If you want something done, do it yourself" kind of a person (which is why I draw stuff and occasionally write fic of my favorite ignored characters/ships and all that), but it does get kinda frustrating from time to time.

After years in fandoms I've learned to just let it go, to the point that I have no expectations at all when I enter kink memes.

Sometimes I think the disappointment is worth it when the opposite happens and I actually get what I want/need. So much excitement. So much.

I get it, OP. I got attached to Azazel/Riptide, and Riptide doesn't even say anything. If I ever find out the secret to loving main characters, though, I'll be sure to let you know. :/

I feel you on this. I only ever started writing fic because I wanted some porn about some sexy minor characters and there were literally no stories about any of them.

Unfortunately, OP, I'm not in your fandoms, but I totally get what you mean. Even if the character I latch onto isn't actually overall my favorite, they're usually a very minor character most of fandom's either neutral to or outright hates.

Supernatural - Adam Milligan.
Grimm - Roddy Geiger.
Teen Wolf - Isaac Lahey.

And so on. I just do what I do, though, no matter what anyone else thinks.

I noticed the more canon/popular a pairing gets the least likely I am to ship it. I don't think I'm just hating on whatever is popular, it's just most of the popular ships are just so....boring.

I feel you. If it's not minor characters, it's the unpopular pairing/ship. The main pairing does nothing for me, I want some niche pairing, and it's nearly impossible to find anything for it. I want Xander/Riley, everyone ships him with Angel or Spike. I can't ship Clark/Lex because I know they'll end up mortal enemies, it's everywhere. I love Finn/Puck, Klaine dominates the fandom by virtue of being canon. I tell you, it was almost a relief when I realized that I shipped Altair/Malik and there was a decent chunk of the fandom who loved it.

And you know, I've heard people comment 'if you want more of [pairing], write it yourself!' and it bugs the crap out of me - even when I am, I want to enjoy other people's work, not my own over and over, and as much as people say that it'll encourage others, I haven't found it doing that. *sigh* Fandom...

This. I find it one of the worst arguments ever. It's not the same to read your own writing than someone elses. There's no surprises or anything.
Also, some people just aren't writers. English isn't my native language and my narrative english kind of sucks. My voculabry lacks and I just don't feel comfortable. I'm more of an artist so I stick to the fanart but I would love to read some fics too and whenever someone says "write it yourself", it just bugs me.

I feel you, OP, so so much, and unfortunately I can't write for shit (I have tried), so I can't exactly "do it myself".

Besides, sometimes you want to read, not write.

I know how you feel. My favorite character from Madoka Magica, Mami, is left out of both of the big ships. Even the official art leaves her out of the ship teasey stuff. I just want to read about her happy, dammit. :(
