I loved a lot of the things that came from it and a lot of isolated parts of it: the characters and the awesome Asgardian worldbuilding bits and Coulson hijacking New Mexico and the continuity porn and every line that came out of Thor's mouth while on earth and the cinematography and CGI and shiny pretty set designs and the GORGEOUS soundtrack, but the movie as a whole wasn't great. Not enough superheroing, badly done romance, kinda stupid and blah plot, and the story was kinda weirdly paced and felt incomplete. Like filler background material for the Avengers more than a full movie.

However, due to the aforementioned things I did like about it, I am really jazzed for Thor 2. They might use those things to tell an actual good story this time.

Yeah, without needing to prep for The Avengers (and Loki as the main villain), Thor is one of those movies that never would have existed otherwise. It didn't have to be so disposable, but that's just how it ended up. But all those things you named made it worth seeing (god, the CGI, yum).

I really enjoyed Thor, but I feel like he could have used a second movie before The Avengers a lot more than Iron Man did.
