If you liked Loki and Thor in Avengers, watch Thor. It also introduces Selvig.

Captain America is heavier on the history and less on the superhero aspects, but it's backstory for Steve (whom I consider to be the purest form of superhero, and the movie explains a bit why he's so idolized in Avengers) as well as containing Howard Stark and the Tesseract.

Both movies are worth watching if only because they explain some things about the Avengers that were otherwise not touched on. I also think they're both worthwhile movies on their own merits, although--as others pointed out--Thor seems a bit rushed at points and Captain America can be dull if you don't like the history aspects.
