My favorite thing about Mako was how he turned into a Zuko-type character into a Katara-type character in the span of 12 episodes. I'm not being sarcastic. I thought it was fascinating.

I thought he was a lot like Katara almost from the beginning. He's presented as a caretaker and the one who keeps what's left of his family together.
