"Coulson isn't dead for x reason" fix-it fics are pretty common in the avengers fandom. Almost everything single loki/tony fic I've read has Coulson alive in it. (I read pretty much every paring, if I think it's done well, regardless of logic). Just wanted to point that out (not there aren't a ton of other issues in setting up a loki/tony fic).

If they're fix it (and yes, I've read and written fix it fic for Coulson's death, so I know it's out there), the stabbing still happened (in most cases). Granted, that adds another issue to the pile, but again, as stated elsewhere (ESPECIALLY if everyone's still pissed at Fury about it), I think it might take some work to get to a shipping point with Tony on this. YMMV of course.
