I dunno... copperbadge made me a Toni/Loki lover. His story, "Extremely Hot And Currently Female" is one of my favorites in the ship.

It's an extremely unlikely pairing, but I don't know that shipping it is the same as thinking it would ever happen. Still, more acknowledgment that Tony isn't really going to care about Loki's daddy issues would be nice.

Avengers romance fanfic can be so lighthearted, though--full of metaphorical Stark Tower treefort sleepovers and literal mass polyamory and everything delightful just for the sake of being delightful (and bantery), so, it's easy for me to suspend my disbelief if someone wants to pair Loki with any good guy just for the fun of it. When it's lighthearted it's easy for me to suspend disbelief.

I hate Tony/Loki for, well, all the reasons you described, and yeah, I can't see Tony viewing Loki with anything other than disgust (I mean seriously, NO ONE hates pre-Afghanistan Tony Stark more than post-Afghanistan Tony Stark, and Loki is a lot like pre-Afghanistan Tony Stark except he also knows he's causing others pain), but wow, forgot about how it connects to the Coulson/Yinsen thing.

However, I think you're missing a rather important consideration: a lot of Loki/Tony fics happen after Loki has become a good guy and repented of his evilness. And I think Tony would be more open than a lot of other people about accepting a guy who used to be a horrible person but now wants to make up for what he's done. That scenario still doesn't do much for me because it's too Redemptions Equals Sex-ish, which bores me, but it's very different from what you're describing.

I don't know much about that pairing but on the surface it seems to me that people find the actors awesome and/or attractive and go from there. It doesn't bother me personally but I don't actively seek any fic or art out.

95% of all the Loki ships would not work without some sort of redeption. I think most writers acknowledge that and most fics I see happen after, or during, some sort of Loki redemption, or in an AU.

That being said I generally can't see movie!Tony with anyone but Pepper. (As in, in an actual relationship). And I can't see Comic Book!Tony with anyone, period.

Meh. I ship it (semi- or post-redemption only though tbh... by "semi" I mean like, "Loki isn't a supervillain anymore but he's not exactly a good guy either" Loki-As-Embodiment-of-Chaotic-Neutral stuff with Loki probably sorry for what he did but not apologetic or really talking about it, etc.). I looove that pairing because it's so complex and different.

You get really angry about pairings though, anon :< sheesh

All the good Tony/Loki fics I've read have a basis of part-movie, part-comic, part-whatever/AU canon. I really don't get why people take this one movie so seriously that it gets in the way of shipping, but that's a matter of taste (actually, I don't get how people can take super hero movies serious at all, but that's just me).

What I find silly are people who go "But based on fact x, y and z of the canon I know, pairing x doesn't make sense and every one who likes it is an idiot". I know OP here didn't do that, but really - still nobody making you read those fics. Why do you care?

Loki/Any of the Avengers (including Thor) gets an instant DNW from me, I like to believe they all have more self-respect than that, even Tony.

Seriously, agreed. Tony/Loki fic always give me vague second hand embarrassment. I'm not the type to judge pairings, but they're always ooc, especially on Tony's part.

I can't speak for others, but for me, that dynamic is what makes the ship interesting. Tony sees a weaker version of himself in Loki and hates it, but at the same time, he sees so much of himself that it kind of creates the train wreck effect, and makes an interesting angle for redemption fic.

If you don't like it, that's cool, you're allowed to like and dislike whatever ships you want, nobody's forcing you to read fic or look at art for ships you don't like (if they are, they're an asshole). Just, y'know, let the people who ship a ship you don't like have their fun, because having fun is ultimately the point of fandom.

...So, uh, anybody have any fic recs?

"Coulson isn't dead for x reason" fix-it fics are pretty common in the avengers fandom. Almost everything single loki/tony fic I've read has Coulson alive in it. (I read pretty much every paring, if I think it's done well, regardless of logic). Just wanted to point that out (not there aren't a ton of other issues in setting up a loki/tony fic).

That's maybe because people who ship it are primarily just Loki fans, and don't care a lot about Tony's characterization? (I don't hate the pairing, but that's what I've gotten from the Loki/Tony fic I've read anyways.)

I totally get why you wouldn't ship it, but all those things you said in your secret? Totally the reason I ship it... I mean, it would be unhealthy as hell, but sometimes I like that i my ships too.

(Granted, I haven't read any Tony/Loki fics, so the whole thing is mostly in my head. Recs, anyone???)

Or, seconding what others have said, it totally could work as a post-redemtion-thing.

and I say this as someone who does not ship Tony/Loki at all in any way, shape, or form, movie/comic/au/whatever. This ship does nothing for me, so I find this even more comical.
