idk man...what I liked about 90s television is that there was such a VARIETY of show types. Sure, there was crap, but at least there were plenty of other programs to choose from. Now it's like you either get storylines about kids trying to become pop stars or stoner cartoons with no plot (with a very, very few watchable shows in between.)

stoner cartoons with no plot

I hate those SO MUCH. And I agree about variety. I had so much to choose from as a kid, everything radically different from everything else (from the classic Looney Tunes to Scooby Doo to Cartoon Cartoons to animated Marvel) compared to now.

The stoner cartoons annoy me more. Adventure Time and Yo Gabba Gabba kind of fit into that, but they have more to offer than lolrandom. I'm pretty sure Chowder was just a show for people with the munchies, though the animation was attractive. I think there is just as much to choose from now, it's just spread out among more channels.

I find Chowder more fun than either of those two. But that's primarily because of this one episode where John DiMaggio's character goes to the bank. The build up and pay off in it is absolutely perfect. Slow burn and delicious explosion expertly done.

I was going to come here to say this. 90's had a lot of crap, but so does every decade, but I feel like they (the creators/big companies) were more willing to take risks with their shows. I know a lot of it is probably to do with the economy being so poor, so everyone takes less risks, but I think they are shooting themselves in the foot by only doing certain types of shows.

This. I mean, there are a couple of rare exceptions, but fame-oriented shows or stoner cartoons make up the majority of kids' TV now.
