I loathe Ren & Stimpy, but after we covered it in some class or other, I have to appreciate how drastically different and original it was trying to be for it's time. Waaaay too much gross-out humor for me, but it pushed the envelope, both in what could be considered acceptable and in artistic terms (it was apparently one of the few animated shows where they refused to use "stock" animation for the character's movements). So basically, for me, it's like most of the independent comics of the 70's--I do not care for them at all, but I can appreciate the changes they made in the medium that other comics/shows that I do enjoy were later able to exploit.
