....eh. I think some of the hate he gets is a little over-the-top, but I can't find it in myself to really care about him, tbh. I watch him and feel like the creators WANT him to be the Zuko of this series, and hit similar notes as a character and be brooding and dickish and make us all love him anyway, but he's just.....not doing it at all. For me, anyway. Even before his arc started, there was a lot more depth to Zuko than we're getting here. I guess my main problem is that Mako's underwritten at this point, that he hasn't yet earned the amount of weight they're trying to give him.

I think there was some decent depth hinted at with Mako very early on: he's spent the past decade raising his little brother, doing morally ambiguous things to survive (and as such is totally unimpressed with the rather entitled Korra who's never had to think about possessing money or having shelter and so on), he's a firebender same as his parents' murderer...

...and then it all got kinda wobbley and weird and douchebaggy.
