(Anonymous) 2012-07-17 01:36 pm (UTC)(link)Negative criticism for fics is not a new phenomenon. I remember back in the day when people would get flamed madly just for writing m/m. Almost a decade ago now, there were still flamewars over stupid characterization shit like writing the 'wrong' character topping, or writing the 'wrong' pairing, or writing badly, or writing Mary Sues or blah blah blah. Plenty of times those things were also ignored.
Fandom hasn't really changed. If anything, it's probably the OP who has changed, and frankly, I think it would be a lot more helpful for them to stop blaming external factors like fandom, and start considering the internal factors that have led to their increased anxiety and increased tendency to see the negatives parts of fandom over the positive.
Fandom isn't ruining OP's fun. OP is ruining OP's fun.
