I'd love to be able to purchase digital, legal manga translated into English, presumably at a lower cost than what the physical copies go for. Even if I could regularly afford $10 for a book I'd finish in under an hour, I don't have the physical shelf space.

Oh god this. I used to buy all the manga I could get my hands on.

Then I had to move several times and fuck, trying to move that much manga? I sold most of it.

If I could buy legal scanlations, download to keep (and readable on e-readers!) I would in a heartbeat. So much easier to read quickly in a digital format.

(Of course, a good chunk of what I read/read has either never been licensed, or was licensed and dropped.)

This. This right here. I used to buy so much manga in high school. Like almost $2000 worth of "so much".

Then I moved to college, bouncing back and forth between small apartments over the past four years, and I practically had to give my collection away. I kept maybe like 2 or 3 really short series and Rurouni Kenshin (which is still at my mom's house).

Not to mention that I used to live in Hawaii so having physical books was a lot more risky with the humidity and book worms and stuff. Also there was a Japanese store in the big mall downtown that sold untranslated manga anywhere between $1-$5 dollars. That shit was cheap and more compact

So yeah, definitely want to support the makers but not any other of the bullshit that gets packaged in.

I kept...Rurouni Kenshin (which is still at my mom's house).

I applaud your taste sir-or-ma'am.

Why thank you. Nine years down the road and it's still one of my favorite manga of all time.

Excited apprehension for the movie, then?

This. There are about three series I would go out and buy every single book of if I had the physical space for them, but I don't. I've already had to sell off a lot of my collection due to lack of space.

Well, there are actually lots of options now for that! Most major publishers have some way of getting their manga out digitally, be it a website or ipad/iphone/android apps.

The big ones:
- JManga (http://www.jmanga.com/) - Lots of previously-unlicensed stuff and some old Tokyopop/Kodansha things.
- Viz Manga (http://www.vizmanga.com/) - Shonen Jump stuff, mainly, but they're adding in Shojo Beat titles too as time goes on.
- Yen Press has a monthly magazine called Yen Plus that has ongoing chapters from some of their titles (http://www.yenpress.com/yenplus/). They also have an iPad app where you can buy whole volumes, I think.
- eManga (http://www.emanga.com/) - DMP's website. Pretty much the place to go if you want yaoi or those weird Harlequin-Romance-turned-manga.
- Square Enix Manga (http://publications.na.square-enix.com/na/us/top) - Has manga that were originally published by Square Enix.

Amazon also has a pretty sizable library of downloadable manga, with some overlap with the previously mentioned.
