(Anonymous) 2012-07-16 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)Either way, here's the deal: when you put stuff out for public consumption, the public will consume it. If they don't like it, they'll discuss it. Publicly. It'll happen. If you write a beloved and popular character in an OOC and unsympathetic way, chances are, you won't receive a lot of kudos for it. If you write a female character in a way that seems misogynistic or bashing, not only will you not receive kudos, but you'll deserve the criticism that comes your way.
Fandom isn't 100% positive. I love complementary reviews but I'd rather get critiqued and find out what doesn't work for people, especially if I have characterization issues, than have people ignore my stuff completely.
