I can honestly say that out of everything in the Avengers fandom, nothing skeeves me out more than this. My skeeved-ness has absolutely jack-shit to do with the comics — my brain emphatically refuses to factor anything about what Marvel did to its characters in the past few years into my opinions of and feelings about them and their relationships to the point where I'm basically incapable of properly discussing them with anyone, and even so, the movieverse and comicsverse are completely separate in my mind. But this. I don't know why it affects me so much, but it just makes my skin crawl and I don't really know why. It is viscerally disgusting to me for reasons that I can't quite put my finger on, although my best guess is infantilization vibes. And Peter Parker is not Peter Parker without Aunt May and Uncle Ben. He just. Is. Not. Peter. Parker. He can be Spider-Man, but he is not Peter Parker. Origin stories and settings are vitally important to basically all superheroes, but Peter Parker even more so than pretty much any other superhero besides Superman.

And Peter Parker is not Peter Parker without Aunt May and Uncle Ben.

and the money problems.

this whole superfamily idea makes me think its fans just really wanted their ~superhusbands being daddies and raising a kid together, but neither has children in the comics for fandom to borrow (unlike, say, magneto), and entire fandoms can't agree on OCs, so they borrowed spider-man.

but it's such an ill-fit.

MTE to everything you said.

You articulated perfectly the problems I have with it, especially just erasing Aunt May and Uncle Ben (amazing people!) from Peter's life and the infantilization. So disgusting.
