:/ Secrets like this are why I wish there was a more diverse group of companions to choose from in New Who. Why do all of them have to be young, conventionally beautiful, abled people? Can't we have old men or women? Disabled people? Fat people? Mentally ill people? Mentally handicapped people? I personally would find that much more interesting than a bunch of blank slate, young, conventionally beautiful people.

Awesome comment. Where would you like your internet delivered to? :¬)

Thank you! I really do wish that this was the case though. I don't actually watch all that much Doctor Who because I don't find the New Who companions all that interesting and I heard that it gets really sexist in later seasons :/

Exactly!

Old men > Wilf was a companion for the finale and he kept up pretty well. The heavy guy Matt Smith's Doctor meets up with, the one he rooms with and then he talks to his baby, was a heavy dude. Donna was on the heavy side and wasn't conventionally beautiful but I know you mean even more so than them and I totally agree. We need more diversity.

Heck, I'd settle for some freaking ALIENS. There was a run of five years, after Sarah Jane left until Tegan ended up on board, where the Doctor had five companions who were aliens (Romana, Adric, Nyssa), a Human not from Earth (Leela), and a robot dog (K-9). Heck, even when Tegan showed up, there was also at one alien companion on board (Adric and Nyssa, then Turlough [there's also Kamelion, but that's a complicated story]). I get that the Doctor loves Earth and Humans, and all that, but that doesn't mean all of his companions have to be Humans, or from Earth.

Or even ONLY our "modern" humans. Does the Time Lord have a particular hard-on for the early 2000s or something? Or are the writers just suddenly that lazy?

Oh, yeah, that, too...

Actually Jack is from the future, so there is that.

But, yeah, since Peri back with Five, the companions, along with pretty young women, have mostly been from current-day Earth.
