I don't have a credit card or any desire to get a Paypal (don't trust 'em), so I can't buy stuff online. The bookstores near me tend to stock very little or no manga, and nothing I'm really interested in.

I do have a couple shelves full of manga, but for the most part I'm just not bothered to read them anymore. I don't like reading any type of comics online.

However, I do get where it would be occasionally legit to do so--sometimes it's just not feasible to get your hands on the actual books...or DVDs. I don't even think the DVDs for the anime I downloaded (subbed) exist with subs, and the dub is one of those that's had episodes skipped and a million things cut out of it. (The wikipedia and fansite episode listings have a depressing amount of 'Not aired in English'.) I rented a volume from the video store once and cringed all the way through. Even if I could get the Japanese DVDs and was able to understand them, there's only two or three episodes on each. And then the last three series never got aired in English at all, they were simply never translated.

So if I want to watch them, period, I have to torrent. There's not really another option. Judge away I guess; what little merch actually has made it over here I buy--including all the manga for the series and multiple figurines and stuff.

Since I have all the manga and some merch from it though, I don't think I really fall under the 'too poor' excuse. More the 'fuck you ShoPro, release official subs already!' one.
