I did link to a picture of each daemon in the author's notes for that reason.

Unfortunately, in the Sherlock fandom, the idea that John Watson's daemon is a dog or dog hybrid is so prevalent trying to write something different is somewhat frowned upon.

Aw, I like the dog daemon fanon but ever since this fanart I always think of him as a chameleon.

oh that's amazing

[personal profile] anonymouslyyours 2012-07-17 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
The story it's for is a trip too.
It's a Sentinel/Sherlock crossover. John/Sherlock. I especially liked Harry's role in this. It's not daemon exactly, more like spirit guide but the elements are there.

You know now that I think about it there are kind of biological predetermination issues similar to omegaverse that everyone was talking about for the past week. I mean there is "finding the true one!" but it is dealt with from a pretty interesting angle. And Harry is a lesbian Alpha.

when I'm not drunk I might leave a more coherent review if someone wants one.

The story that inspired the art is very good, too. Actually, I enjoy most of velvet-mace's fics. Her spoonfic and tetris fic are unparallel.

How could you post John's spirit animal without mentioning Sherlock and his?

So you're reading Chameleon as well - high five! :D

[personal profile] anonymouslyyours 2012-07-17 05:52 am (UTC)(link)
I linked to it!

I read it a while back but it obviously left an impression. High five on our mutual flawless taste!

OH shoot sorry! I thought the link was velvet-mace's fic on AO3 D:

Have you read rest of velvet-mace's fics? Her crack never fails to crack me up.

Is that an owl? But owls are notoriously stupid fucking birds. Am I too drunk to get the joke?

[personal profile] anonymouslyyours 2012-07-17 06:37 am (UTC)(link)
Sherlock is super observant and the owl facilitates that?

Nah, if anything, Sherlock would be a crow. Owls are famously known for being a stupid apex predator. They're brilliant at killing shit, so they never developed much brainpower beyond how best to tear the little mousie to pieces. They're as dumb as posts, just with highly developed senses.

Crows though, crows are scary smart birds. They can observe and understand better than human children, even remember certain humans, rare in the animal kingdom. Crows are frighteningly brilliant. If Sherlock was a bird, he'd be a crow.

[personal profile] anonymouslyyours 2012-07-17 06:46 am (UTC)(link)
Oh I agree! Just saying I thought the artist drew parallels between the owl's large eyes and Sherlock being observant.

I can see Sherlock being a crow. The coloring and drama is there even but don't get me started on crows. I have entire spiels of why you should not shoo them because REVENGE!

I am also highly suspect of what those cephalopods are getting up to in the unexplored parts of the ocean. I've watched too many videos of their kind practicing their land walking and jar opening skills to trust them.

Cephalopods are brilliant. They're beautiful and genius and fantastic. Fuck dolphins, the psychopathic rapists that they are, cephalopods are where it's at. I love going to the Baltimore Aquarium and seeing them. They know, I feel like, more than anything in there, what they are and where they are. If anything in that ocean is making castles, it's them.

Crows be bastards. I love them for it. Any bird clever enough to attack the same humans who threw rocks at them gets my vote. They're lovely and clever.

I approve of your approval of cephalopods.

So glad, Cthulhu, because you old gods are the only ones I'd hunt down a virgin for. Blood and fire, that's where the worship really lies.

[personal profile] anonymouslyyours 2012-07-17 07:07 am (UTC)(link)
Cephalopods are brilliant. That's exactly what scares me because humans will have had it coming when they are finally our merciless overlords.

I hate dolphins. Their beady little eyes and their mocking laughter.
Oh sure they're cute and all until

My favorite part of Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy is when they all fucked off.

"Thanks for all the fish"

I personally don't find them very cute. I was always suspicious. Everything intelligent enough to get our attention is intelligent enough to be cruel.

I genuinely do not understand what you are trying to express here.
