Fun fact: in my country, working adults are the ones who discourage their kids to buy stuff legally, and even those people who used to get their DVDs/video games legally in their teens tend to turn to piracy when they reach adulthood. When I was about twelve and got my grandma to buy me a PS game for 13 dollars, I was ridiculed by my godfather in front of my family for it. They could buy me the bootleg version of the game for about 2 dollars, so why would I want to buy it legally for 10 dollars more, am I really that stupid??? - they said.

Since we have one of the lowest income in the EU, after paying taxes and repayment, the average working class adult has around 170-300 dollars to spend it on food, clothes, travel and hobby. Even those who would sacrifice their money to buy stuff (like DVDs and video games) for their kids wouldn't spend it on their own hobbies, so they download their stuff instead.
