I am not going to read any of the above comments because no doubt most of them will piss me of royally, but I wanted to say that I completely agree. I don't care about all the 'imagined scarcity' and 'it doesn't matter to the author, if I wouldn't read the scanlations I wouldn't buy the comics either' arguments. It's still theft. And for every person I know who does buy the things they read or used illegally when they get some money, there are ten who never do.

Studies show that the majority of people who pirate are more likely to buy entertainment, than those who don't. This money tends toward indie artists, but is also spent on things they enjoyed - usually, something they wouldn't have found if they hadn't pirated it in the first place. These consumers actually encourage creative output by investing in the things they care about.
