Honestly, the only way you will *ever* be in a fandom that isn't full of wank/criticism-of-canon is if you just keep moving on to fandoms that are only one or two seasons old. Basically, the older a fandom gets, the more bitter all the fans get. Things that didn't go the way fandom wanted them to go kind of accumulate, and eventually the fandom can't let anything go anymore.

You're only other option is getting into a tiny fandom (I'm talking <50 fans in the whole fandom, here), because sometimes with the right mix of people tiny fandoms can maintain a positive atmosphere better than big fandoms can. But then you'll have no fic to read.

TBQH, your best option if generally to join a big fandom and then carve yourself out a small corner with like-minded fans. That won't necessarily work, because individual fans can change over time,just like the fandom as a whole can change over time, but you can just drop or pick up people on your flist to keep your corner of fandom how you want it.

But yeah, it's not fandom overall that's getting more negative. It's that all specific fandoms get more negative over time. Apparently during season one everyone loved SPN fandom because it was so wank free. *shrug*

(You mentioned that you watch Korra, and you might argue that that fandom is 'young' given that there's only been one season so far, but the fact it's a spinoff means that all the negativity from ATLA fandom is carried over.)
