Re: Never before featured! Puppies! And the obligatory spiders.

I'm sorry- I could do that, but I'd actually prefer rather not to if I could help it. The way these posts were originally started by [personal profile] cuteanimalpics was to get people used to seeing spiders or seeing them in a different light as opposed to AAA GET IT AWAY. I understand some people will have that reaction, and I could make a seperate post, but that would sort of defeat the original point, which was to have both cute and/or interesting animals and spiders being placed in the same context.

For what it's worth, it's actually working on at least one preson. I used to be arachnophobic to the point of shutting the tab FAST if there was a picture of a spider in it, then I sort of forced myself to like... "Okay, you can look at these cute animals, but you have to look at the spider too, okay?", and now I find myself curious about some of them and a few get a nod of appreciation.

The baby spider today is so teeny!

Yay! I'm really glad to hear that. Actually, looking at pictures in a controlled setting is one way that people use to address arachnophobia. There's an article on it here which has lots of pictures- but they're all of cute puppies and dogs and there's no spiders, so it's pretty safe to read about what arachnophobia is and how it can be handled.

Heh, it'd suck if you wanted to read that but had a dog phobia, too XD Thanks for the link! And yeah, I'm slowly desensitising myself to them.

I'm also using these posts as desensitization. It helps that you tend to feature cute-ish big eyed fuzzball spiders and describe them as if they're cats and show them chilling out and being harmless on people's hands :)

(TMI time - things with too many legs in proximity to people's hands used to freak me out so hard - I nearly had a panic attack once from a *description* of a fictional crustacean biting someone.)

BTW, I'm amblypygid anon from the other week. I requested that post partly because whip scorpions give me an even more powerful ohgodnokillitwithfire! response than spiders do, and I wanted to make myself look at them in a positive context. So yeah, thanks for normalizing arachnids for us phobics!
