I used to rage at non-anime cosplayers (on the inside) but I don't remember why. I was a very silly child.

I never raged but I thought it was weird for a while. I mean. Anime convention-- why would you WANT to dress as non-anime characters? Didn't make sense to me.

Then I realized that, depending on the character, there's really no good time to ever cosplay as them. I mean, Harry Potter? Unless you wait around for an HP convention well...yeah. HP has nothing to do with comics or games-- unless you're a huge fan of the HP games I guess?-- so where else can you wear them?

When I went to Ohayocon the other year I enjoyed the Katamari Damacy (I probably spelled that shit so so wrong, sorry) cosplays I saw, and the Homestuck ones too, even though I honestly don't read or care about Homestuck. It was just cool seeing people dressed up and having fun, and I really love just recognizing people's outfits. You know your cosplay is pretty good if a derp like me can point out who you're supposed to me. :P

Nope, you spelled it right! :D

Also, this is pretty much the whole reason why I sometimes dress as non-anime characters at anime cons. There's simply no other time to do it, because none of the other fandoms I'm really into have dedicated cons (oh, and borrowing the Disney character example from another post, it's not as though I can walk around Disney World dressed as Belle in her gorgeous yellow/gold dress, no matter how much I'd like to, because as I understand, Disney actually discourages visitors from doing so in order to reduce confusion over which Belle is the "official" one :P).

And I share your opinion of Homestuck in general, but I also enjoy seeing all the cosplay for it (especially the trolls - I have to admit, they have some pretty nice character designs).

Yeah, only children are allowed (and encouraged!) to disguise at Disney characters at the various Disney Land / World, for the reason you mention.

It's a bummer for grown-ups who might like it, but on the other hand, having read Sandman where a serial killer explains he goes to (unnamed) attraction parks to lure children to then abuse them, it's probably safer... Also I figure they're afraid disguised people might ask for money to get taken in picture with them.
