But then I realized I wouldn't have enough money in time for both the con and costume. D; Someday, though!
Anyhow, I think it's cool to see non-anime characters. I've seen TF2 characters at various places, which makes me laugh. Love it.

But I also don't understand why 'half your reason' to do it would be to piss people off. (You might've been joking, but this is f!secrets so maybe not, too.)

Conventions are usually just fun places to go with friends, OP. I really don't know how you met people who are so serious and exclusive about their cosplay.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-17 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)Dude, I love that anime cons are becoming more generalized-nerd-cons. I don't have any access to non-anime conventions, and there are a lot of anime that I really have no interest in (up to and including many popular anime that 90% of the merch comprises of), so seeing general nerdiness being celebrated is a huge plus.

Sounded like an oil tanker full of "Stop having fun guys!" I didn't understand what the big deal was at the time, and I still don't get it.

Seriously though, people actually have issues with that...? That's a thing? I see non-anime characters at cons all the time.

I never really understood.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-18 12:02 am (UTC)(link)unless it's a regional thing and cons here in the midwest are just entirely laid-back/don't care about it at all. I've never encountered the whole non-anime thing anywhere around here.

So...actually, keep doing it. Listening to them kvetch was entertaining. And it keeps their ire drawn off other stuff, like whether or not we have their stuff in stock or we're charging more than they think the damn comic is worse.
Hell, I call manga "Japanese comics" (If they're from Japan) or just "comics" or "graphic novels" just to screw with people at cons. "THEY'RE MANGA" "Doesn't manga translate to something like 'comic book' anyway?" "RAGE RAGE RAGE" Boom, a ten hour shift just flies by.

I always figured it was do what you want thing, like If someone went to comic con dressed as a digimon character no one would care either.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-18 01:31 am (UTC)(link)Take "Anime Boston" for example. Minecraft cosplays. Oodles of Homestuck cosplays. Steampunk galore. Stormtroopers. A Portal booth. Harry Potter characters running around. Spike holding a puppet Spike. Mostly Anime panels, but all kinds of stuff for all kinds of interest.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-18 03:57 am (UTC)(link)So yeah. Don't care if you cosplay other things as long as it actually stays an ANIME CONVENTION, not just a convention with some anime in there.
