I remember hating non-anime cosplay was a thing waaaay back in the 2000's. OP might want to join the present. The probability of you pissing someone off is very low.

Hey OP, if you really want to piss people off either:
1) Don't make your costume but say you made it yourself.
2) Say "Oh I never saw/played that; I just thought it was pretty".
OR
3) Wear a Leg Avenue costume.
