I'm friends with this year's Otakon president and he was bitching about how MLP cosplays and such shouldn't be allowed at anime cons, with his argument being how the Pony fans would feel if he showed up in anime cosplay at their cons. I remarked they probably wouldn't care. But then, he gets up in arms about the sillest shit sometimes.

So while it does happen on the rare occasion, I wouldn't expect a big hullabaloo if you did do it. It's painfully common now.

Otakon is actually the con I'm prepping for when this was on my mind and it makes me very sad that the current Otakon president is the embodiment of that anime-only mentality that I hate so much. Regardless of what he thinks, I'm still going to wear my non-anime costumes; they're not banned after all. I'd love to know how, other than being annoying to him, how non-anime costumes are hurting Otakon's president.

This amuses me entirely too much, only because I do enjoy annoying him so very very much (it's easy to do!).

He's one of those anime fans who's actually lived in Japan for a number of years, but prior to that, he was just as huge a Japanophile as the next otaku. He's a huge purist, it is very sad.

I say do whatever the hell you want and if you piss off at least one person, then your job is finished. :p
